Clearing the way for what’s to come!

It’s an exciting time for Essential Clearing. Really!

Most of us have been in isolation and disconnection for a year now, and we’re ready to step up and out.

While there are many levels of comfort about doing just that, and many suggestions about continuing to keep our immune system’s guard up as the weather warms, this month I’d like to start with the Essential Clearing we each need to do to get comfortable transitioning back into this new world that is unveiling itself day by day.

Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “clearing” to mean the act or process of making or becoming clear.

ACT and PROCESS are the two key words here.

What are you planning to move toward and what steps of the process will get you there?

What actions can you take now for what you want to bring into your life?

To get more clear, we need to unblock, unclutter, free up, empty, release.

Joseph-Cambell-Quote-Essential-Clearing

Like me, you may have discovered that a year of relative isolation has given you a significant amount more time for self-reflection.  Maybe you’ve written a novel’s worth of journal entries daily like I have. Maybe you’ve discovered how much “clutter” you had in your life – be it stuff, people that weren’t a good match, tools and habits that absorbed your time, TV shows that filled your head with fear/anger/discomfort of some sort?

Perhaps you’ve identified the simple actions that bring you joy and delight.  Maybe you’ve sparked your creative side and had a chance to delve into new appreciation for simpler activities and more quality time with your housemates, partner or spouse? Possibly you’ve explored your local surrounds with open eyes and found deep gratitude for what’s been right outside your doorstep all these years.

What about your thoughts – how much time have you give to the essential clearing of your soul’s truths—those little voices that seemingly speak up when you get quiet enough to hear them?

  • Are there thoughts or doubts about your safety in stepping back out into the world?
  • What are you thinking about your potential for success?
  • Are there financial limits? Physical restrictions?
  • Do you have concerns about how you’ll spend your time, and what you’ll need to give up to get?
  • Have you identified some true unmet needs for approval, admiration, love and support?
  • Where do you see your relationships evolving, or new ones being created?

Getting Ready to Re-Engage Takes Some Mental Excavation

As you think about Essential Clearing, what MUST be done to make way for what is to come—-try to first uncover what thoughts are holding you back.  Where is the resistance?

In her blog post 10 Strategies for Absolute Clarity, Courtney Carver shares several great ideas to help us get more clear on where we’re headed. She offers suggestions to help such as: focus your attention, clearing your surroundings, and the important step of giving yourselves permission to experiment with your path.  Actions and process—> essential clearing.

Importantly, Our Bodies Need Essential Clearing Too

From a whole-person perspective, your physical well being plays a key role in determining your emotional well being. It is so important that Essential Clearing begin by recognizing the impact of what you put in or feed your body, and what therefore comes out of it!

One of the best ways to clear the body and therefore to open up the mind to new things, is to follow a “spring cleanse” or seasonal approach to better choices that may have been tossed aside during this past pandemic winter of our lives. Radical action may not be the best step for you.  Try these simple ideas for a few weeks and/or hopefully adapt them as a complete lifestyle.

Personally – I’m a 90/10 or 80/20 girl—80 – 90% of the time I eat clean & fresh food and 10-20% of what I eat is probably not the best, but falls into my carpe diem category (Google it).

  • Choose lighter foods – more fresh veggies, less meat-cheese-carbs
  • Drink ample quantities of water
  • Refrain from sweets, flour, gluten, alcohol and even caffeine (or try!)

Curious to figure out a plan (process  + action) to give yourself an Essential Clearing this spring? Email me at marty@martyharger.com.  I love scheduling a 30-minute Zoom call with people who want some suggestions and a great wellness plan to start feeling, well, better!! I’m all about customizing a plan for each person vs the “recipe” approach to seasonal cleansing.  I’m not into scary or radical approaches—we’ve all just lived through a year of that stuff, so let’s go gentle and get things into flow again!

Do You Know About The “Chimneys” of Detoxification?

Clearing the body is the first and essential step I want to suggest. You have to understand the type of toxic build-up you may need to shed from within your body to shine through to your best self this spring. Whether from the air we breathe, the food we eat, the things that touch our skin—our lungs, digestive tract and skin are the three primary physical pathways where our body can gather unhealthy pathogens or toxins.

Now, layer on toxins that can enter our mind – what we pick up online, listening to most news reports, from friends or colleagues, family disagreements, community uproar – and now you’re starting to get the idea of what has to be “cleared” to make way for the spring of our lives. The better future!

Human abdominal organs

Let’s Clear those “Chimneys” In the Right Order!

When was the last time you took a serious look at the inside of your body? Take a look at the image above and bring it into focus.

To clear our amazing body from physical disrespect, we need to make sure the path of elimination or detoxification is open for business!  Our body has primary and secondary “chimneys” through which it moves waste.  The primary chimneys are the intestinal tract, the urinary tract and the ever-important liver.  Once those areas are clear, the secondary chimney – our skin, is far less likely to take the cleansing burden.

A Quick Anatomy Lesson on What’s Happening at Your Core

Within the core of our body, or abdominal cavity, we find the main function of the body’s gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which is to metabolize the food we eat and excrete waste products. If the GI tract isn’t working well and flowing properly, it can’t distinguish usable substances to absorb (vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins and carbohydrates in the small intestine) from harmful toxins (waste products and indigestible fiber in the large intestine).  Stuff builds up, and over time, we get sick.  Since over 70% of our immune health is determined by the health of our digestive tract—this is a big one for essential clearing.

Healthy Organs Matter!

Many organs of the body take on powerful detoxification functions, particularly the liver, kidneys, and colon.  The liver is the metabolic powerhouse responsible for processing fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and other nutrients into forms that are easier to use by the rest of the body.

The liver also plays a key role in detoxifying the body of drugs or toxins. After metabolism in the liver, any waste products must be eliminated. Solid waste is removed through the colon in the form of feces, while nitrogenous waste is eliminated through the kidneys as urea.  If the waste can’t get through these paths, it then starts erupting through the skin. Gross perhaps, but a true sign of essential clearing needed!

Healthy organs have the capacity to “clean” or “unplug” themselves under normal conditions.  But overexposure to toxins, unhealthy diets, and build up of that toxicity in these vital organs can create serious issues for our body, and for our mind/emotions.

Louise-Hay-quote

Take a Deeper Look At Your Liver, the Power Organ

When it comes to detoxifying and clearing the body and mind, the liver is king! Not only does the liver play a vital role in our metabolic and detoxification pathways but it is a core organ that stores our emotional history and expression.

We’ve all got some essential emotional clearing to do this spring. Take a look at the feelings that we can manifest when we have congestion or an overworked liver.  Then read on for my suggestion on how to get things moving toward a better place.

According to author Louise Hay, our liver is considered the seat of anger and rage.  In her classic book You Can Heal Your Life, the author explains that chronic complaining, justifying fault-finding to deceive yourself and feeling bad overall may indicate it’s time to give your liver some essential clearing. Consider the power of words and using the affirmation in the image above, to attract more of what you want in your life and to clear out what you don’t.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic practice also tie excess liver energy to a variety of ailments that can manifest in the form of “intense heat” arising in our body and mind.

Author of the book, Feelings Buried Alive Never Die, Karol K Truman, explains the liver as the body’s “Anger Center” where imbalance and dis-ease/dis-comfort may result in a variety of low-vibrational feelings such as:

  • Feelings of unresolved anger
  • Feelings of resentment and pettiness
  • Being judgmental
  • Critical thoughts
  • Not forgiving self and others
  • Feelings of injustice and revenge
  • Feelings of self-condemnation
  • Feelings of regret over the past
  • Feelings of sadness
  • Being possessive

Human Body Energy Clock

Still Not Convinced It’s About Your Liver?

Question: Are you awake between 1:00 and 3:00 am nightly?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine used as a primary form of healthcare for hundreds of millions of people around the world, disturbances in our energy during specific hours of the day may indicate a state of unease in a specific part of the body. Take a look at the chart above to get a clearer idea of the “message” of different hours of disturbance in your well being.

“The 1:00 – 3:00 am nightly wake up is likely a message from your liver that is overwhelmed trying to detoxify anything from the things you put in your mouth (poor diet choices, medicines, chemicals, alcohol, coffee, supplements) to your thoughts (anger, stress, frustration, confusion).  While we’re supposed to be sleeping soundly to help our body regroup and heal, our mind kicks us awake and there we lay, eyes open, tossing and turning.” (Read more here)

Given all we’ve been through this past year – is it any surprise how many of us find ourselves awake during those hours?

How do we interrupt that cycle of disrupted sleep?

After years of wrestling with this one myself, I’ve recognized that this is its own type of alarm clock for me to start noticing what I’m doing differently that is contributing to this sleepless cycle.

I’m still exploring the things that impact my sleep cycle and one by one, clearing out the things that are creating repeated disruptions.  I’ve sought advice from Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors, and Naturopaths for help. And while we can add something into our health routine that can help even temporarily—when it comes to an over-worked liver, it is usually about taking something away from our daily routine.

This is where Essential Clearing comes in.

What would you remove or let go of in your routine or intake…instead of taking in MORE, what could you take in LESS?

Fears? Thoughts? Anger?

Could you start a new routine of relaxation using aromatic essential oils, gentle breathing techniques and stretching? What about a restorative yoga practice to “settle down” a busy mind for a good night’s rest? How about taking a look at the stimulus you are “feeding” yourself right before bed?

Keep the Zendocrine Detoxification blend handy.  Before bed, place a few drops over the liver on the right side of your stomach just below the rib cage, or on the arch of your feet.  Then place just a bit more on your back just at the bottom of your rib cage over the adrenal glands and kidneys.  This can help support you through sleep as you process your thoughts and feelings.
